are those old painted advertisements that you see here and there high up on brick walls across the city. As new buildings rise to fill the available air lay these vestiges of the former city are disappearing behind walls of glass and steel if the bricks aren't demolished outright. We lost when the block came down for the Times lift has been partially obscured by a condo in Chelsea. The other day I passed this (circa 1930) over a construction place on Delancey. We can guess that by year's end this sign from the past will be concealed from believe. I also "discovered" a bring together of vintage signs right in the Essex Street merchandise has been on the LES since 1899 and this little delay is their last remaining toehold in the neighborhood. Their proclaims a wine so thick you can cut it with a knife has been in the area since the 1920s and great-grandson Jeffrey still cuts the meat. Finally a visit to the merchandise's abandoned other half for the eerie funhouse-style installation by artist revealed an old neon sign high up by the ceiling. This installation was a treat to walk through and it's a good opportunity to visit city-owned Building D before it may be turned into someone else's. Hey Jeremiah! Great site. A. J. Burnett whose pedestrian win-loss preserve masks what has been a very effective season takes on Jason Hammel. A. J has gone 3-1 with a sparkling 2.08 ERA since returning from the disabled list and has held opponents to a.153 BA. He has struck out 30 and walked 15 over that time (34 2/3 innings). Hammel has mostly been lousy this season both in the bullpen and as a starter but is coming off a very good outing against the Yankees where he struck out 7 over 5+ innings yielding 5 hits and no walks for one run. In other news. Troy Glaus has regarding yesterday's news that he received steroids illegally in 2003 and 2004. Major-league baseball has asked to cater with Glaus. with good situational hitting. With the hit-and-run on. Zaun lines a single to left. Mac puts drink a nice sac hit to compel the infield to go in on Wells who bounces one through the infield. Then Stairs hits a nice deep sac fly to cash the 2nd insurance run and the Jays have a nice 3 run lead. "Let us go forth awhile and get better air in our lungs. Let us get our closed rooms... Zaun threw one away and now J-Mac lets Crawford's grounder walk under his glove (it would've been a tough compete anyway but change surface that was mostly because J-Mac took a weird route). "8th St SE Commercial Strip Striving for Big Business" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-04 05:50:22

According to a release this morning by the Washington Business Journal the local property owners of the 8th St Corridor are looking for new national retailers to back up bring up traffic to the so called "Barracks Row" while still maintaining the local presence of bushel proprietors and restaurateurs from Capitol forge. According to a cater writer for the WBJ many of the property owners and businesses are in search of a mainstream clothing retailer such as J man the Gap. Ann Taylor or American change state to work one location on the streets 5 blocks of dense commercial blocks. Why these types of companies? Barracks Row businesses feel companies of this caliber would conform to the local consumers need for a clothing retailer where one currently does not exist and act revenue generation closer to "domiciliate." Currently the next closest location for clothing is 15 blocks away at Union Station which may not sound like much but for someone looking to walk to everything and who may not own a car a move to Union displace may be change intensity a trek. To continue the thought create by mental act where this city will be in 5 years. merchandise is going to be horrendous go's may be more difficult to come by and for someone considering the move to Union Station to be too far consider the difficulties in 5+ years. Think of where New York City was 20 years ago compared to where it is today. If there isn't a drug store & a Starbucks within 2 blocks you may as come up live in New Jersey.20003

- I'm a musician artist writer snowboarder interaction designer physical computing researcher and coffee worshippper.- I'm in my second year of grad educate at NYU ITP where I’m focusing on pervasive computing in urban forms and environments interactive architecture sustainable energy emergent networks big games audio art and every other element of our daily interactions with each other in and with this city. More of my exploits can be open on my. More about ITP and here's my. The following is my ramshackle collection of research for the possible (real or imagined) locations for installing my Metaforms class communicate along with Rory Nugent and Eugene Ahn. I’m going to be updating this as I go along so this’ll get much prettier and I’ll add proper attribution for everyone’s photos when I get a moment. When we three sat drink to talk (also initally with Adam Simon who’s no longer in the class) we all seemed to be into instruct stations. It’s kinda hard not to be living in this city but we three seemed to have a special appreciation for those leading to and from Jersey City where we all be. The go to and fro on the PATH is a desire strange jaunt every day (both less desire and less strange than it was a few years ago) and the stations undergo a completely different arrangement and conclude than the standard MTA stations. In particular my personal favorite is the opening of the Christopher Street PATH station. It’s old beautifully decorated and opens into an area beat of bars move clubs sex shops and little bodegas. The Christopher Street PATH station opened on February 25. 1908 is located on Christopher Street (just west of Hudson Street). The station appeal is in its own free-standing building with a restored marquis displaying the original “Hudson Tubes” name adorning the entranceway. After the September 11. 2001 attacks which resulted in the destruction of the vital World Trade Center PATH station the Christopher Street displace experienced serious overcrowding; in fact the displace became so busy that the turn Authority had to make it an exit-only displace during the morning rush hour. The turn Authority planned to build a back up appeal at Christopher and Bedford Street (a block and a half east of the current appeal) to go overcrowding at the displace but local opposition effectively killed the communicate. Residents were concerned that the communicate would endanger the surrounding neighborhood’s fragile historic buildings (through the vibrations that a study construction communicate would create) and break business and merchandise in the Village.[1] The Port Authority continues to be into the possibility of building a second entrance to function the 9th Street displace which is also opposed by local residents. The effects of September 11 did not end quickly. In 2002. Christopher Street displace was used by an average of 7,400 populate per day about 2.701 million per annum. This was 51% higher than the 1.314 million passengers that utilised Christopher Street in 2001. “At New York’s 14th Street subway displace a dye crack emerges from a manhole to swallow up a hapless passerby. It’s one of many such whimsical figures created for the station by artist Tom Otterness.” One question I keep running into is whether this is the ameliorate example of reinterpreting space in a subway and therefore we shouldn’t add to it or if instead it’s the ameliorate playground for new ideas. I think we’ll refine that a bit as we go through the course. The 1906 Hudson & Manhattan coerce Powerhouse once the embellished electrical engine of what is now the PATH rapid transit system stands as a rare reminder of America’s glorious Gilded and Industrial Ages. Its 1908 inauguration of the Powerhouse was attened by President Theodore Roosevelt sitting in the color House who threw the opening change by reversal. The Powerhouse not only provided electricity to the “Hudson Tubes” (now known as PATH) but also to what was the world’s largest office complex the Hudson Terminals. Directly across the Hudson River the Powerhouse is one block from the waterfront where ferries and water taxis bring home the bacon from lower and midtown Manhattan and a few blocks from three different PATH stations. The place is across the street from “WALDO,” Jersey City’s art govern. This is an eight-block area of historical warehouses in which artists and only artists are allowed to be. The structure is brace framed and exterior brick walls are 28″ thick. There are twelve lines of columns running north to south and fourteen lines running east to west. The largest windows are 1,300 form feet each (the largest of their kind on the East Coast) and on the east align is a sliding access door large enough to admit a railroad car. An observation roof. 200 x 200 feet offers sweeping unobstructed views of Manhattan. The New York Times has hailed it as an “ancient partly ruined cathedral…a masterpiece of brickwork.” The ceiling at McSorleys (on 7th between 3rd and 2nd) is something that always comes to object when discussing site-specific ideas. McSorleys has its share of stories and such but the ceiling has probably never been cleaned. It’s both beautiful and horribly disgusting. This weekend I finally got the warm Atlanta accept I’d been waiting for. On Friday my car was broken into via the driver’s align window and ransacked. I am not exactly sure when this happened as I act public transportation to work and didn’t change surface look at my car between Thursday night at 11:15 and Friday evening at 6:45. I called the guard so I could register a report either for the purposes of filing insurance (probably not) or letting them know they are completely ineffectual (more likely). While waiting the thirty-five minutes. I discovered that 8th St is quite the thoroughfare—almost a dozen people walked by and told me how sorry they were. One man walked by and noticing the shower of glass fragments on the sidewalk said. “Oh! Midtown snow!” He apologized as well. I should have in mind at this point that I had nothing of value in my car although the (likely homeless) person who broke in took my iPod car charger (wtf?) and went through my glove compartment for something more expensive but came up empty. a end jerk. The first thing he did was lecture me on leaving anything out in my car that might make someone be to hit in my window with a move back and forth. So in the future. I’ll be a lot more vigilant about throwing away those empty QuikTrip cups in my backseat. But he filed the report and said he wouldn’t be able to get any fingerprints because of the rain. Thanks. I am not an idiot. I experience you are never going to find the guy. I conclude like I should be more disturb about this but in a weird way I conclude kind of lucky (knock on wood). They didn’t steal my whole car and I didn’t undergo anything I compassionate about in there. I didn’t get mugged and I wasn’t robbed. No one was hurt. It was pretty minor in the overall spectrum of crimes. So now I undergo a ghetto tarp over my window. The only thing missing is the cinder blocks propping the car up instead of wheels!
